"Brave Warrior" Hikyū Chawan
A matcha bowl, chawan, holds a vital role in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. This stunning handcrafted ceramic piece originates from Japan’s Shiga Prefecture, celebrated for its exceptional clay deposits and rich history in ceramic artistry. Crafted in the Youhen Ibushi style, this bowl is specially designed to create matcha with a remarkably smooth and frothy texture.
Hikyū originates from an ancient mythical ferocious leopard-like beast whose strength and bravery was second to none, but it is also used to call a Brave Warrior. The brilliant silver-metallic glaze epitomises the heart of steel of a warrior who can bounce back from setbacks and keep moving forward despite difficult circumstances. The brilliant artists who meticulously glazed and baked this original Shiburaki ceramic wanted to impart the spirit of a brave warrior to those who use this unique chawan in their daily matcha ritual. A perfect gift for someone special or for your own Matcha Ritual journey!

Where I'm From
Shigaraki in central Japan is home to one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, with a rich history dating back to the 13th century.
One notable feature of Shigaraki ware is the use of unique coarse soil natural to the region. The rusty glaze on the scorched portions of Shigaraki ware is prized in tea utensils.
